My biography, and exhibitions.

Ken Taylor

Born in Yorkshire

Lives in Quidhampton, near Salisbury, Wiltshire, UK

Studied Civil Engineering at Nottingham University with a first degree then PhD in 1971. Firstly employed in foundation engineering carrying out site investigation for road and bulding projects in the south west of the UK, I then briefly took up technical writing for New Civil Engineer before eventually being employed by Shell to run their North Sea foundation investigtions duing the development of their new northern North Sea oil and gas in the mid 70's. That led to a 30 year career as an engineer in oil and gas field design and development living  in London, The Netherlands, Far East and Gulf region and retiring in 2006 as country chair in Kuwait.

Reflecting on life, an experienced artist told me it takes 30,000 hours to become half decent as  portrait artist. I think that I'm persevering well at about 6000, ...with some way to go.  In comparison, it is sobering to calculate that my 35 years practising as an engineer probably amounted to 85000 working hours.

I remember that as a gloriously rich experience, along  with all of the hard work and ups and downs.

So it is today with Art!
